A Message From The Bobby D Show

February 10th, 2012 Posted in Updates

To say that the last 24 hours have been crazy would be an understatement.  We set out to help a family the we believe deserves to grieve in peace.  As I was doing research on Westboro Baptist Church I was made aware of the fact that they have called off pickets in favor of radio interviews.  I offered up The Bobby D Show as a venue to talk their talk if they agreed NOT to come to the funeral of the Powell boys.  Everything worked out but then, I had a change of heart.  What if they showed up anyway? Well, after getting a call from someone we believe to be close to the family, we called off the interview unless we could air it on Monday as to keep the focus on the family.  They said ‘no way’ to a Monday interview and we moved on.

This morning though, Fred Phelps Jr. from Westboro Baptist Church did call in. He seemed fine to chat with us and let the interview air on Monday.  Having said that, if they choose to show up to the event anyway, the interview will be destroyed and will never see the light of day.

Many emails and calls have some in, (even a death threat) asking us why in the world we would ever give this guy a venue to spew their hate.  That answer is simple; it’s about the family.  It’s not about you, it’s not about WBC, it’s not about this show and it sure isn’t about me.  You think I WANT to have these people on a show that I have worked so hard at perfecting to my liking?  NO way.  Having said that, I care about people and I DO NOT want them at a place that needs to be peaceful and a time ONLY for grieving and remembering.

In closing, you can hate me, you can hate the show and you can hate what we did.  I stand for what I believe in and I believe those kids deserve to rest in peace.   I stand firm in that this interview will NEVER be heard by another living soul if they are at that funeral, this I promise you.  So if they don’t come, take the day to remember what this is really all about, 2 kids that were taken far too early and a woman that is STILL missing.  Please be respectful of that.

Thank You,

Bobby D

UPDATE 2:  Many people have asked; ‘How do you know for sure that they won’t show up to the funeral?’  We don’t.  I don’t know that they were ever going to show up for sure.  But we played the ‘better safe than sorry card.’  If they do, the interview is destroyed. They have yet to go back on anything like this yet. Let’s hope that it stands!

UPDATE: Fred Phelps Jr. from Westboro Baptist Church on Twitter said this; “Just finished interview with @thebobbydshow. Bobby D. Was a real gentleman. Washington trip now cancelled.”

Bobby D. I was so angry about the group ( I can’t stand to call them a church) protesting that I posted about it on my FB page. This morning I saw this and I want to share with you what I posted along with a copy of the article on msn “THANK YOU to Bobby D., who took one for the team. What an act of mercy and grace that he would tolerate the yuck and hate for a time and provide a way for this group (I can’t even call them a church) to express their views in a manner that will leave this innocent grieving family alone. I’m gonna look up this man’s page and thank him. He really was what the Lord would have him be. Respectful, brave, merciful through that which he had the power to do. What an example of how to deal with controversy!” Sir, I’ve never heard your show, I don’t know if you are a Christian or not. I am, I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a Mormon as we’re called. I want yo to know that YOU, Sir, were an example of what TRUE Christians do. May you be blessed in every way you need and hope today, because you put yourself aside for the greater cause of goodness and love. I wish I could shake your hand. YOU were and answer to my prayers all week. Don’t worry listeners…this group has no more respect or increased following because of this interview. If anything more people are aware of a group that is rude and spiteful. More of us are educated on who to NOT support.

What the WBC is doing is verbal terrorism (yes, I know, an overused term; It still fits perfectly). As much as possible this sort of behaviour should not be given in to. Having said that, I fully support what you have done Bobby D. God Bless you!

  6. Shannon says:

Thank you for doing this! I appreciate your personal sacrifice for our community. It was a gift to be able to celebrate the lives of two beautiful boys without any negativity.

  7. Stacy says:

Lilly – Hope you and the others at Westboro Baptist “Church” enjoy burning in hell. You are not the judge and I highly doubt you know what God is thinking since you obviously don’t know Him.

  8. Peter says:

If people want to learn about what the Westboro baptist church, they don’t need listen to the interview. Simply do the research and you will find out more than you care to know. It will make you sick to see how young they begin to brainwash young children. Watch a couple pieces on U-tube. Sickening.

I urge the radio station to urge listeners to turn off the radio during the time this interview is aired. No one needs to hear this dribble. It serves no useful purpose. In fact I believe it is counter productive. What a blow it would be to the Westboro baptist church to hear that the ratings for that one hour were abysmal. That would serve a clear message.

A little short sighted isn’t it? This one time may have been about two kids, but what about all the next times to come?

You’ve turned extortion into a business deal.

God is love, how can love hate. Westboro Baptist church doesn’t have a clue, I doubt that they are even saved. Newsflash WBC members, you are sinners, you are no better than anybody else.

“God is love, how can love hate. Westboro Baptist church doesn’t have a clue, I doubt that they are even saved. Newsflash WBC members, you are sinners, you are no better than anybody else.”

If God is pure love, as we humans define love, why does the Bible speak of God’s hate for non repentant sinners?

Why does Jesus clearly say that the majority of humanity are headed for the lake of fire?

The truth is, God demands our obedience. If we willfully disobey him, we are no better than Satan and the angels who followed her.
